B Plus: ’62 MGB Roadster
We never owned an MGB. Our friend, Mike M. has one in his eclectic collection and he just enjoys the heck out of it. And that is why the MGB is a great car. An enthusiast can really enjoy it with abandon and the novice can learn the virtues of a traditional sports car without getting too hurt. The B is a stout car with a monocoque structure unlike its peer over at Triumph that had a body-on-frame construction. Most people in the know believe the B is a better handling car with a more forgiving ride than the Triumph. We agree. They built lots of MGBs but we like the early cars with the steel dashboards and toggle switches. And that gets us to this offering in California. It is amongst the earliest of MGBs we’ve encountered and it has all of the right features of an early car. The Iris Blue color is neat plus it has a hardtop and that is icing on the cake. Like many cars of this vintage, they tend to get restored to better than new condition. I think that applies here too as the interior is very up-market. Not a deal breaker in our opinion. Mechanically these cars are extremely durable. The fact the restoration was completed by a marque specialist should justify the top-of-market price. See it here on eBay with a Buy It Now of $19,900.
