Sharp Car: ’69 Datsun 1600
Somebody at Datsun knew what Henry Ford and Enzo Ferrari practiced – race on Sunday, sell on Monday. And that is why the Datsun 2000 and its stablemate, the 1600, exist. They wanted a presence in racing. Bob Sharp and others served them well winning C and D Production in SCCA racing. The 2000 and 1600 were phased out when 240Z production began. Our find today is a California black-plate car. It has been sympathetically restored and you can tell the seller really likes this car. The list of parts used in the restoration is impressive including a new interior with Dynomat insulation to help quiet road noise and reduce heat transfer. Neat stuff. It is said to run extremely well and fans of this model love the go-kart like handling. We don’t object to the white exterior and love the black Panasports (not sure what they are) and for some reason we don’t mind the stripes. If you do, they can come off easily. The only part mentioned that needs attention is the soft top which as outlived its usefulness. If you are looking for something different than an MGB or TR-4, we would recommend you look at this one closely. It’s on eBay and you can go to the auction by clicking here.
