Fun for Four: ’61 Jaguar 3.8 MK II

Jaguar MK II fr

This isn’t the first 3.8 MK II we have posted but it might be the best. If it sells it will certainly be the best. We are suckers for these cars but we keep the automatic versions at arms length. Not that there is anything wrong with them. It’s just the 4-speed is more Jaguar-like. These cars, however much we like them, are expensive to buy without a complete examination by a marque specialist. Jaguar 3.8 MK IIIf you have good vibes about this one, then maybe it is worth the expense. It is beautiful in Mason Black and the light color interior in real leather  with fine wood trim is exquisite. The best part being the 4-speed stick popping out of the transmission tunnel. That transmission connected to the sweet running 3.8 engine is unique in 4-seater cars of this period. Now it too has a few issues. Nothing appeared to be a serious although we would ditch the failed attempt at installing modern A/C. The one custom touch is the louvered hood. We are on the fence about that because we tried that trick on a Healey we owned that always ran hot. Louvers didn’t help but looked very sporty. We would leave it as is. Wrapping up our black English sports sedan segment, we can say that if you can afford Jaguar, go for it. If not, the MG will be rewarding for a fourth the price.
