From $50k to $29K: ’60 Jaguar 3.4 MK II 4-Speed
Still available but at a much more reasonable price. Is it because it is in South Dakota?
There is no denying the beauty of a vintage Jaguar Saloon. They adhered to Sir William Lyon’s philosophy of “grace, pace and space”, when they conceived this elegant 4-door. Like many old luxury cars, they were not respected by collectors as much as sporty coupes and convertibles. We get that. However with the increasing popularity of historic rallies and enjoyable classic car tours, they are gaining some serious respect. Why not be comfortable while you’re having fun. We are not suggesting taking Grandpa’s Buick Electra 225 on the New England 1000 mind you.
But a sporty Jaguar sedan equipped with a 3.4 litre engine connected to a 4-speed manual won’t embarrass you. And that takes us to this offering. It is beautiful in the pictures with an Old English White exterior and very nice blue leather interior with a bit of patina. The wood looks good inside, as does everything else. The seller claims the car came from California originally and when it moved east, it became a fair weather cruiser. The custodians of this Jaguar have showered it with love. The engine bay is nicely detailed and the chassis photos in the listing are impressive. The price is a bit of a stumbling block. Not sure how many $50,000 MK 2 3.4 have been sold. The more powerful twin-carb 3.8 model, maybe. The market will decide as it always does. So if you want a great event car, watch this auction. If it doesn’t sell, maybe the seller will negotiate hard.
