Exceedingly Rare: ’64 Porsche 356C
In 1964, the 356 was pretty much nearing the end of its run. The 911 was introduced only a year later. There was still demand for the traditional 356 so production continued along side the 911 for a year. The 356C version like our featured car has disc brakes all-around and a powerful pushrod engine. An even more powerful engine was available and those 356s have an SC designation. Regardless, all 356 Porsches are sought after. The Carrera engine versions are at the top of the food-chain, followed by topless versions. According to experts about 50% of all 356 cars built still survive. In what condition one has to ask. We’ll wager there are quite a few that have been cobbled up, lost there original motors, and have pounds of bondo hidden under super glossy paint jobs. Our featured Porsche is an original survivor. Yes, loyal readers of Mint – paint, interior, body panels, wheels and engine are factory original. How cars like this one manage to survive is a testament to its previous custodians. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer color combination of Slate Grey with red leather interior. Sweet. It even has a cool Becker Monte Carlo radio that is probably worth a grand or two all by itself. SCM has this as a B-grade collectible with 4 stars and a #1 car at $52,000. Now an original car can’t be a #1 but what value do you place on originality? This one is one to watch or if you are in the market, get on the phone and start arranging that PPI. Read more at the eBay auction by clicking here
