Albert Finnie: ’64 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Fuelie
Rare in a car model isn’t like ordering steak – medium, very or just a little pink. When a car company produces a variant with numbers like 66,000, I doubt you should call it rare. This Fintail or Finnie to the cognoscenti, should be named Albert. Just for fun. Other than it being an Automatic, it is a remarkable car that has an extraordinary interior. The body is said to be rust-free and the mechanicals are working well too. As you know by now, a few publications have recognized the unique qualities of a Fintail as an event car. They are sturdy beyond belief and very comfortable for long distance touring. Their reputation as a winning rally car give it the chops to be considered seriously. The transmission on this car is the only drawback even though the automatic is a decent box for its time. As you readers may know, Mint has a ’67 230S 4-speed in the same color although we have Tobacco interior that we sort of prefer. Ours in Tex and it looks like the offering is real leather. What we do know is these are not inexpensive to set right but once you achieve Nirvana it should stay that way for years. It has a really strong Buy It Now at $18,500.
