Choices: ’63 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Normale

Alfa Romeo went from Giulietta to Giulia in 1962 with an updated 1600cc engine, a 5-speed and some modifications underneath it all. A Giulia Spider sports a hood bulge and looking under the hood, you can find the 105 chassis number stamped on the firewall. Like any Alfa or sports car from this era, rust is an issue. Inspect every car carefully for rot in the rocker panels and the windshield area. Today’s offering came from Frank K. and his favorite seller. And it is a real mind-bender. It is a 1963 Giulia 1600 Spyder Normale that has been beautifully maintained and meticulously documented. We are talking a 2 owner, matching numbers, rust free, original paint, original interior car with documents trailing all the way back to the original bill of sale from Foreign Motors Inc. in Boston, MA on the 2nd, July 1963 for $3,395.00.  This is where it gets dicey. What do you do with it? The paint is dull and may benefit from a good buffing. We had an Alfa GT1300 Junior in similar condition and we were able to restore some shine back but it was really thin. The interior has patina and originality that is impossible to duplicate. A few minor rips in the seats and we don’t know how easy it is to repair. The original carpets and vinyl look decent and clean with almost no fading and they fit perfectly. The gaps we can see look pretty decent. but we can’t see everything. We like the fact that the heavy lifting on the mechanicals has been completed. So if you buy it, you’ll pay a premium for the originality. So this will be your choice – preserve or restore?
