Britain’s oldest automobile company, Daimler, was founded in 1896, as an offshoot of the German company that survives today as Daimler-Benz. Following the end of W.W.II Daimler Cars resumed production of its pre-war
DB18 model. The DB18 had typical pre-war styling with all of the traditional Daimler hallmarks including the famous radiator grille. There is absolutely no need to go into the history of a Ford F100 Pickup. In a nutshell, the F100 was the foundation Pickup for what will become Ford’s best selling vehicle most years. The seller is offering a family heirloom and that is hard for the seller to do we are sure. It is his (or hers) Grampa’s F100 pickup. For Mint readers who are not familiar with the Northeast, New Canaan, Connecticut is one of the most affluent towns in the New York area. It is a suburb of Greenwich – sort of. What we are trying to say is that a Cars and Coffee-type event is going to draw some pretty amazing cars. It did not disappoint. It is actually referred to as Caffeine & Carburetors and it is in its 5th year. New Canaan Caffeine and CarburetorsEven the founders of the event were amazed at the size and quality of the turnout. Of course, The Colonel caused quite a bit of  excitement as we burbled down Pine Street, closed off to traffic for the morning. We were surrounded with some amazing cars from Maserati Sebrings to McLarens. We were parked in front of an 1000 hp Supercharged Ford GT. Probably the only time we will ever be in front of it. We don’t usually get excited about finding a late ’70 Volvo Sedan for sale but this one we will call an exception. The 200 Series Volvos replaced the 140/160 series and was also designed by Jan Wilsgard. Post 1974, they were burdened with huge bumpers but in a strange sense, that contributed to Volvo’s legendary claim as the safest car you should buy. They even had some pretty outrageous safety colors that improved your visibility in the fog. We are talking orange and lime green and a few others. And the 2-box station wagon solidified its position as the top-selling wagon for people who think. Every once in a while, they came up with a really nice, elegant sedan and that is what we found today. Read More
