2-Tone Drop Top: 1951 Daimler DB18 Sports Special Convertible

Daimler Special Sports Convertible

Britain’s oldest automobile company, Daimler, was founded in 1896, as an offshoot of the German company that survives today as Daimler-Benz. Following the end of W.W.II Daimler Cars resumed production of its pre-war
DB18 model. The DB18 had typical pre-war styling with all of the traditional Daimler hallmarks including the famous radiator grille. The Daimler DB18 was produced from 1948 through 1953 with a total of 608 examples being created. Although most DB18’s had standard four door saloon bodies a number of drophead coupes were produced by both Tickford and (Daimler owned) Barker. Daimler Special Sports ConvertibleThis 1951 Barker-bodied Special Sports submitted by Rick De., probably has a 2,522 cc in-line six-cylinder, pushrod ohv engine fed by a single SU carburetor. It looks great in its period colors and the interior appears to be in pretty good condition. It is said to be one of 18 imported by New York’s Fergus Motors. They were the go to shop for English cars during this period. We are not familiar with valuations on these but what we did find out is that this Daimler was offered at auction in Florida in 2002 and did not sell at a bid of $17,500. The interior at the time was pretty far gone so it appears the (new) owner has invested some money to bring it up to speed. These cars are neat but the marketplace for it might be overseas and not stateside. See more at the eBay auction by clicking here.Daimler Special Sports Convertible
