Skylar’s Ride: ’83 Jeep Wagoneer
The Jeep Wagoneer was the first luxury 4×4. It began production 28 years ago and it was a Sport Utility Vehicle before they called them SUVs. The Wagoneer pioneered the SUV marketplace, although it looked like a giant station wagon on steroids, it was very car-like. In the early years the Wagoneer competed against utilitarian International Harvesters and Land Rovers and in the Rovers case, it would be years before the Range Rover would come to the US shore in any great numbers. The Wagoneer was based on the Jeep SJ platform and offered features unheard of at the time in any other 4WD vehicle such as power steering and automatic transmission. There is quite a loyal group of Grand Wagoneer fans including Walter White’s lovely wife Skylar (if you don’t know who she is, look it up). Today’s featured Jeep is from our friend Sam T. and it is one of the best of its kind. First, it is a limited edition woody with 93,000 miles. The interior looks like new and the detailed pictures of the bottom are pretty remarkable. If this was in Wagonmaster’s inventory, we are sure it would be close to $40 grand. We like these period SUVs. If you drive down Greenwich Avenue, it looks like a Range Rover convention. How cool would you be if you pulled into a spot in front of Richard’s in this?
