We like it 3-fold: ’55 Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle

1955 Volkswagen 111

Everyone knows about VW Beetles so we won’t get into any details about how it came to be the best selling car in history. But here is a tidbit– on February 17, 1972, the 15,007,034th Volkswagen Beetle comes off the assembly line, breaking a world car production record held for more than forty years by the Ford Motor Company’s Model T, which was in production from 1908 and 1927. 1955 Volkswagen 111The really early Beetles are the most collectible and finding true survivors with all the rare parts is extremely difficult. One of our west coast friends found this lovely ’55 oval window sedan in Canada and it is a winner. It has many rare parts like the 3-fold sunroof and working semaphores. Real Type 1 experts will appreciate the small details like ribbed doors, batwing wheel and an early square gas cap. But we just like the entire package including the original 36 hp engine and non-synchro gearbox. It still has the 6-volt system intact and rides on bias-ply tires.
