Cool Swede: ’72 Volvo P1800E
Volvo wasn’t known for making sweeping changes year to year. But every once in a while, they were forced to keep up with competition and federal regulations. In 1970, Volvo made numerous changes to the P1800. They added an E which meant it had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic, a revised camshaft, and produced 130 bhp without sacrificing fuel economy. Top speed was around 120 mph and acceleration from 0–60 mph took 9.5 seconds. In addition, the 1970 model was the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes. We do like the Volvo P1800 and we offer nice cars as they come to market. We have a preference for the earlier cars but any nice one is certainly going to make a new owner very happy. Today’s offering is one of those fuel-injected P1800Es and it appears to be in great condition. The seller states the Volvo was treated to an $11,000 repaint in the original Alpine Blue/light blue metallic with black leather interior. What is particularly nice is it has working Air Conditioning and Overdrive. A nice combination for a spiffy touring car like the P1800E. We think the price is a bit ahead of the market at $28,500 but if you found a rough one and took it to this level, it might cost you more. The seller has plenty of pictures to ogle and you can see them by clicking here.
