Iron Pig: ’78 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55
The FJ55 was a 4-door station wagon version based on the FJ40 drive-train, replacing the 4-Door FJ45V. It is commonly referred to as an “Iron Pig.” The FJ55 was designed to be sold in North America and Australia. All Iron Pigs were 2-tone in color. Most added a 3rd color and that is rust. We are huge Cruiser fans and love the slightly archaic look of the Pig. We tried to find a suitable candidate before we bought our 1st Cruiser – an FJ60. But every one we found had major issues mostly related to disappearing body and blasted interior. And then we stumbled across this one and it is the best (from the photos) we have ever seen. Frankly, we do not know how this one managed to survive intact. But it did and should be on its way to the Toyota Museum if one exists. The paint is the original color, the interior looks good and it even has the correct mats on the floor. There have been a few upgrades and none are offensive although we would not require the added ground clearance the lift gives. It is a great one although they can look great from the pics, so a PPI is in order. Follow the eBay Auction by clicking here.
Hello, I have a 1969 FJ 55 as well as one the same color and year as this one, not as clean though. I am thinking about reducing my registration load as well as vehicle insurance. So any way they are for sale contact me if anyone is interested. Thanks either way, Paul
If you want to send me a few pictures and a description I can evaluate its Mintwortyness.
what’s the status of this fj55, is it for sale?
Thank you.
Mike
Long gone. Iron pigs are hard to come by in decent shape.
