Basic Benz: ’65 Mercedes-Benz 230SL
There are many SLs available but when we spotted this one, it seemed worthy of closer inspection. It is a 2-owner car and the seller states he bought it from an 80-year old gent back in 1980 and now he is the 80-year old gent. It has become difficult for him to drive and care for it so it must go. We like the red and it comes with a factory white hard top. It is also an early 4-speed car and they are very much in demand. After Mercedes stopped rally racing the Finnies, they campaigned a bunch of SLs with pretty good results. This car is a nice, solid, 63,000 mile car so wouldn’t it be a great event car? The one drawback that might limit its appeal is the lack of power steering. That wouldn’t bother us at all but it could hamper a quick sale. Maybe you can sneak in and score a great find. Doesn’t look bad from the few smallish photos posted but statements like “Has 63K plus on odometer” are meaningless. Remember folks, these are 5 digit odometers and this is a 50 year old car (it was nearly 20 years old when the last person bought it…).
