Ferry’s GT car: ’89 Porsche 928 S4
Rumor has it Ferry Porsche was afraid that the US Government might ban the sale of rear engine cars because of perceived safety reasons. He lobbied for a V-10 powered front engine, rear drive car with 50/50 balance. That engine would have been developed by mating 2, Audi 5-cylinders together but the Porsche Board feared the relationship between Porsche and VW/Audi was getting too chummy and no Porsche should have an engine born from a lowly Golf. So they developed the big V-8 instead. By 1989, the 928 was upgraded to S4 status. So we are talking about a 32 valve, 316 hp V-8 that reached super car status. Al Holbert set two FIA world land speed records of 171+mph in a stock, catalytic converter equipped 928 at Bonneville – the same car which could be bought at any Porsche authorized dealer! Today’s 928 S4 is a 37,000 mile 2-owner car offered by a real Porsche enthusiast. It is finished in a beautiful Velvet Red Metallic with a light cream colored leather interior. It is fully equipped for hi-speed luxury cruising. Some expensive maintenance items like timing belts and water pump have already been addressed. These cars are not inexpensive to repair but what 165 mph super car is? But it is a Porsche and built like one so if the electric digital dash god is on your side, make the seller an offer. We hear he’ll consider $20,00 grand. Not the cheapest but maybe the best? Click here to contact the seller.
