Ford-a-rama: ’63 Ford Galaxie 500 XL
Ford didn’t have Motoramas like GM. If they did, let us know. Unlike the Biscayne above, this is a real 390, Z-Code Galaxie. What we find interesting is the body style on the Galaxie. Many of the Z-Code cars are fastbacks and not notchbacks like this one. It is a lot less stealth-like than the Biscayne clone. In fact, it screams hot-rodness in Rangoon Red inside and out. But that’s okay with us. This Galaxie also has power steering and brakes but this one has discs up front. It has been breathed upon by the motor-gods so we don’t actually know who won the horsepower race – Chevy 409 or Ford Galaxie? The choice of wheels is perfect. We really like them both but maybe, and just by a hair, we prefer the Chevy. Mainly because it has less going on outside than the Ford. But the Galaxie is very cool indeed and if we owned both, we would drive this one when we didn’t feel like shifting. Offered at $35,000 and you could not build one for that price.
