Diet Coke: ’73 Opel GT
“Only Flying is More Exciting” – was an advertising slogan used for the introduction of the Opel GT in Europe. The Opel GT’s career got off to a flying start in 1965 when, to everyone’s surprise, Opel presented an aerodynamic “Experimental Concept” at the IAA in Frankfurt. In view of the sensational design, it was no surprise to see the production version on the road three years later. Robert A. Lutz, “car guy”, GM Vice Chairman, Global Product Development, was the godfather to the Opel GT. In1968, in his position as Manager at Opel, he played a decisive role in speeding up the decision on series production. The “Coke” bottle shape of the ’68 Corvette was the inspiration for this svelte GT car. This looks like one of the best we’ve seen in a long time. The seller states it is a low mileage car with perhaps only 45,000 miles. But there is some doubt that is in fact the case. But the condition looks great. It was treated to an expensive respray a few years ago in the original color. The current owner has spent a considerable amount of money keep it running in top condition. The seller installed a more comfortable pair of Miata seats and they look fine. The original seats go with it. We like the stance and the wheel and tire combo. This is a nice entry level sports car that should give you years of fun. It has good club support too. See the listing by clicking here.
