The Way, Way, Back: ’67 Buick Skylark GS400
We went to see a great new movie – The Way, Way, Back starring Steve Carell, Toni Collete, Sam Rockwell and Liam James. One of the inanimate stars is an absolutely wonderful ’70 Buick Estate Wagon – perfect choice for this movie because the movie title refers to a rear facing 3rd seat. But that got us to thinking about Buicks in the late ’60s and ’70s. They were very dramatic yet restrained in their design philosophy; a far cry from the behemoth chrome monsters of the late ’50s. We didn’t find a wagon similar to the movie car but we did find this extraordinary GS400. It is beautiful and well presented enough to be Mintworthy. The GS400 is a nicely optioned car with a bias towards performance and handling. It has rare 4-piston disc brakes and the special wheels that go with it, Posi-Traction, HD Shocks, big sway bars and seat belts. It has only one proper paint job since new. The original owner kept flawless records documenting every oil change. Comes with all of the factory documents too. The seller states the car was always garage kept and although it is not perfect it is pretty darn close. So it isn’t a wagon like in the movie but it is a remarkable Buick just the same.
