We guess that any original 911 that isn’t a rust bucket is worth a look. This one has sat for some time but the seller states it is running and driving now. The matching number engine smokes and they claim that might actually improve with frequent driving. Not sure about that but who knows. The interior is original and in pretty decent shape. There is some rust but it is said to be confined to the bottom of the fenders. It also needs paint. We like this 911 because it is in a nice color called Albert Blue. We don’t know who Albert was and why he earned the honor. Read More

We’ve had only one other GTO on Mint and that was a ’65. The ’65 is significant because it was the first year the GTO was an actual separate model. And this ’64 is significant because it was the first year and it was an option package called Grand Touring Omologato. That option cost less than $300 when new and makes a gigantic difference in valuation today. The GTO was born out of the marketing department at the Pontiac division. General Motors banned racing involvement in 1963 severely hampering their ability to promote high performance vehicles. The engineers and marketing folks in the Pontiac Division knew they had to wage war against Ford’s Mustang and how they were going to do that became a big topic of conversation around the water cooler. Today’s featured car has been in a collection in Wylie, Texas for quite some time. We don’t know Wylie and we are sure it is a nice place. Just seems odd for a nice Nash-Healey to turn up there. Nash-Healeys are really interesting cars partly because of how they came to be. Donald Healey and Nash-Kelvinator CEO George Mason met on the Queen Elisabeth, going from the United States to Great Britain. Healey was returning to England after his attempt to purchase engines from Cadillac, but GM declined his idea.  Read More

The correct description for this little convertible is “transformabile”. We suspect that means the top goes down. Topping the 1958 FIAT line was the 1100TV roadster, priced at $2498. Available in Europe since 1955, this small but exquisitely styled two-seater convertible was inspired by ‘boulevard sports cars’ like the 1953 Corvette and Nash-Healey. We featured MGC GTs before because it is a very interesting car. Here’s a bit of background on how they came to be. BMC had a rather fuzzy product planning department back then. They really didn’t have a clear vision of how to begin to badge-engineer Austin-Healeys and the cars from Abingdon. They even hired our friend Donald Healey to develop prototypes of cars using a lighter weight straight-6 than the engine that powered the A-H 3000. Old Syd Enever, chief engineer at BMC, was given the task of developing a new engine using more modern thin-wall technology that should have reduced the weight of the engine by over 100 pounds.Unfortunately, Syd didn’t hit the mark. The 1965 model year began the transition from an economy car to a driver’s car. Car and Driver magazine’s David E. Davis Jr. showed enthusiasm for the 1965 Corvair in their October 1964 issue:

This is the first of 2 cars we spotted that require a bit of a leap of faith. We don’t suggest by any means, you write a check without inspecting them but we do suggest that you look beyond the pictures. It could be a diamond in the rough. You just don’t get to see too many of the prized stepnose Alfa GTVs. They are also known as 105 Coupes. We think this car should properly be referred to as a Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. The ’67 is one of the last of the stepnose 1600cc cars. When they morphed into the 1750, they lost the detail ridge along the front in favor of a smooth or flat hood. Read More

A Honda on Mint? If you think we just went off the rails think again. We spotted one last week at Lime Rock Park and took a second look. Not because it is insanely gorgeous but because it looked like a really nice, complete package. Just look at the stats. It has 240 hp, a 9,000 rpm redline, rifle-bolt 6-speed, crazy cool dash, and a big red start button. Throw in a power top, A/C and Honda’s legendary build quality and I think you might see the light. Very Rare: ’62 BMW 700 Cabriolet

We have seen a few of these in Coupe form but no Cabriolets. So we did a little research and this is what we came up with.

The 700 is one of several models credited with having rescued BMW from being swallowed up by Mercedes-Benz. When production ended, over 188,000 had been produced, and that level of commercial success enabled the company, supported by a major share holder named Herbert Quandt, to block the threatened take-over. The cutesy styling was by Giovanni Michelotti – with a little resemblance to the Triumph Herald. A coupé and a cabriolet like today’s featured car, were also produced, with bodies made by Karosserie Baur of Stuttgart. It was powered by a 2-cylinder, air-cooled engine of 697 cc from the BMW R67 motorcycle.
