Battle of the Bads: ’91 BMW M5
According to undeniable resources on the infallible internet, Mercedes seems to be responding to BMW in the hot rod wars. In yesterday’s post, we learned that M-B developed the 16V Cosworth has a project to increase fuel economy but we really know it was a response to the BMW M3. The 500E we featured was built as a response to the M5 we have here. Not this very one but one built in 1988. The E34 generation of the M5s was produced from September 1988 to 1995. It was hand-built at BMW M GmbH in Garching, Germany. It utilized the 535i chassis and assembly was done either by a single M employee or a team of M employees and generally took about two weeks, according to some sources. Today’s M-B competitior is a ’91 in BMW Black with Grey Interior. It is said to be in top shape by the seller. It has a ferocious, newly built 390hp motor, 18″ Schnitzer wheels, custom exhaust, and cold A/C. What a nice combination. Hot on the outside and cool on the inside. The seller is asking $14,800 and it might just be worth it. Click here for the Craigslist ad.
Too much questionable Eurotuner-inspired modification going on here, but nothing irreversible, I guess.
