Maybe a good deal?: ’67 Volvo P1800S
If you are a frequent reader of Mint, you know we can’t pass up the possibility of a nice, early Volvo P1800S. We have had some really good examples including the recent offering from friend Mark S. (’64 P1800). Our thinking is the P1800S is probably the almost perfect entry-level sports/GT car. You can find a P1800S in almost any state of condition and no matter what that is, they probably run well enough to enjoy. And no, we are not referring to basket cases with no floors or rockers. Just decent, relatively solid specimens. The design has finally come in to its own and it beginning to be appreciated by astute collectors in the hobby. Will they ever be super valuable? We think not. They built too many of them and over the years, the styling didn’t change much. Today’s featured P1800S hails from California and is in one of those pale yellow/green colors we like. It has under 100,000 miles so it has a way to go to catch up to Irv Gordon. The mechanicals are said to be in good shape and it has working overdrive which can make for more relaxed cruising. It is also a radio delete car so the dash hasn’t been cut for a Pioneer CD player. It isn’t perfect. The interior was redone and the cut & sew pattern is close to original but isn’t correct. But they do look comfie and totally useable. The front grill isn’t correct either but in this case we give it a “who cares“. The seller is asking $10,500 for a running, allegedly rust-free, classic P1800S. If you want something to use in your local club rallies and tours, why not give this entry-level car a second look.
