OZ: ’63 Morris Mini Cooper
This Mini has been around. Originally, it was sent to Australia in a box called a CKD or completely knocked down. That meant it was to be assembled locally in Australia. Car companies often did that to avoid certain tariffs on assembled vehicles. These CKDs were considered “car parts”. Volvo did the same thing for years with cars destined for the Canadian market. A Cooper is a slightly beefed-up version of the standard Mini. Displacement soared from 848cc to 997cc with a blistering 55hp on tap for those who dared unleash the beast within. It led a charmed life down under and was treated to a 2-year restoration by executive members of the Mini Owners Club. They were slaves to originality and kept the Shadow Blue and Platinum color combination. BTW, they refer to the top part of the Mini, the part cloaked in Platinum as a turret. Never heard that before but that is how it is represented. We’ve seen many Minis and this looks like one of the best around. We might even give right hand drive a shot. It is now residing in Connecticut and ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by a new owner. Click here for the eBay auction.
So what part of this is Kiwi?
The kiwi may be an ancient import from Australia like this Mini but it was late when I wrote it so it probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
