Soon to be great: ’55 Alfa-Romeo 1900 CSS Touring
This is a rare Touring-bodied Alfa that needs a complete restoration. In the end, it will be a really special car. The 1900 was Alfa Romeo’s first all new postwar model and featured a number of innovative features including unit chassis, and dual overhead cam inline-4 with hemispherical combustion chambers and aluminum alloy cylinder head. 
A handful of special bodied 1900 C Sprint and Super Sprint (CS and CSS) coupes were built, weighing several hundred pounds less than sedans and featuring stylish bodies by coachbuilders such as Bertone, Castagna, Touring, Vignale, and Zagato. The CSS was differentiated by its twin Solex carburetors and floor-shifted 5-speed manual transmission. We were fortunate to be able to inspect this one personally and are amazed by the solid, original condition of this one. The seller purchased a collection of cars and parts and systematically sorted through the jumble to match the correct parts to the right car. We think he is only missing a few bits to this Alfa. When completed, this one will be welcome at almost every event. Sports Car Market has it as 4 stars and a B rating.
