Hollywood Hot Rod: ’63 MGB V8 Conversion

Back in the 1960s, there was this west coast craze to stuff American V8s into British Sports Cars.  Don’t know where they got the idea (sarcasm) but they did. I guess you could go back to Donald Healey and Sydney Allard for the divine inspiration but Southern California was the home of the hot rod. Putting a big V8 in a little car was sort of normal. There were good shops and less than good shops. Hollywood Sports Cars was one of the good ones. The legendary Doane Spencer worked there as an engine builder. The point of all this has something to do with today’s MGB. It is a V8 conversion executed by HSC back in the 60s. These Ford 289 V8 conversions weren’t cheap. This car sold for over $11,000 in 1963 and the seller has the documents to prove it. A mechanic was one of the owners of this MGB and that relationship lasted 45 years. That tells you something. We like the light blue paint and the factory Olde English White roof. It isn’t perfect and will require some serious detailing. But you can enjoy it while you go through it step by step.
