Motivated Seller: ’73 Jaguar Series III V12
The Series III V12s represent the end of the line of the historic Jaguar XKE. Jaguar went to the V12 because it couldn’t make the venerable inline-6 work with stringent emission regulations. The first V12s were actually slightly down on power from the inline-6 but the Series III provided a slight increase in power with less weight. Quality issues scare people away from these remarkable cars but modern technology came to the rescue and these Jaguars are routinely tamed in the hands of a knowledgeable specialist. Unfortunately, the reputation of the V12 Jags has kept down valuations. That is good news to the serious buyer and less so for the seller. You have to think about this in a different way. The Series III is a stylish convertible with a powerful V12, working A/C and a 4-speed manual transmission. If this was a Ferrari with similar specifications, it would be close to a million bucks! And Ferraris can be fussy in the wrong hands too. So todays featured Jaguar is just like the car described above. It is a 1973 Series III in a sophisticated Fern Gray with Biscuit interior with earlier, more stylish bumpers fitted up front. The car was restored in 1991 and has been kept up to standard by the current owner. The caregiver in this case is our own go-to shop, Auto Turismo Sport here in Connecticut. The seller believes he is the 2nd owner but cannot verify if the 19,800 miles is true and accurate. We should be able to get that information by sleuthing through the extensive photo documentation of the rebuild. The seller is asking $69,900 $57,500 and that might be somewhere in the middle of the pack. We’ve seen some sell for more and other quite a bit less. It has a non-factory hardtop that is included in the sale. The seller will entertain any reasonable offers with special consideration given to those who see the Jaguar in Connecticut or have a pre-purchase inspection performed.
