The Godfather: ’59 AC Aceca

1959 AC Aceca

The AC Ace roadster spawned an industry when you come to think of it. The Ace, designed by John Tojeiro, later became the AC Cobra and that created an industry devoted to replicas. But let’s back up a bit. The AC Ace’s beautiful lines were said to be inspired by an early Ferrari Barchetta or little boat. The bodies were hand formed out of alloy on an English wheel then attached to a ladder-type tubular frame. Originally powered by an uninspired relic producing a paltry 100bhp yet it still yielded a 100mph + top speed. In 1954, the Ace was joined by a unique hatchback Coupe called the Aceca. A more powerful Bristol engine was also available and that produced 120 bhp. 1959 AC Aceca1959 AC AcecaAnd that brings us to today’s rather rare find. It is a really well-kept ’59 Aceca Coupe powered by the Bristol engine. The seller is the 2nd owner and states the Aceca has been garaged since it was new. It is a LHD car and that is a bonus if it stays in the States. The interior is original and looks it. You can’t buy patina like that. Remarkable. This is a no issue example with everything working as a 10,318 mile example should. The gearbox has a non-synchro 1st and the seller says the rest of them work just fine. There was a similar Aceca on What’s My Car Worth last week. It sold for big bucks. How big? Hagerty has these Bristol powered hatchbacks at $99,000 for condition #3 up to $163,000 for #1 cars. We think this might do as well as a #1 car and maybe a little better. We’ll take a 10,000 mile documented car with original interior anytime. Click here for the eBay listing.1959 AC Aceca
