Rare Mustang #2: Ford Mustang K-Code GT Coupe
What we said earlier about the convertible applies to the Coupe as well. The K-Code Mustangs are rare and valuable and now is the time to step in and get one. You might ask why we are so gung-ho on these cars, after all it was just an option package for a car that Ford made about 600,000 of in the first year. Well, you have to drive one to appreciate it because before there were big block pony cars, this was the way to go fast. The 271hp solid lifter engine spins like crazy and the sound is amazing. And if Shelby GT350s are out of your price range, this is the next best thing. In fact, without disturbing anything visual, you can modify it to get close to GT350 power and handling for not huge money. This K-Code is a Coupe and probably the least valuable among the 3 body styles offered back in the day. But that makes this a smart buy because you get all the fun for less money. Now as far has Coupes go, you can’t get any better than Bullitt’s Ivy Green with the rare GT Package and American Torque Thrust Wheels. The original owner watched this car being built and then owned it for almost 40 years. All of the paperwork remains with the car so the provenance is there to protect you against a GT Package clone. This one has some performance upgrades that probably add to the fun but can also be returned to stock if the new owner chooses to. We repeat our Hagerty Valuation Tool numbers, this time for Coupes: $32,000 for low-hanging fruit and up to $50,000 for prime steak. The seller is willing to part with this one for $29,500. Now it does have 126,000 miles on it with no mention of a rebuild but we would have a PPI done to assure the engines health. If it checks out, finish up with the deal and go have some real fun.
