Not sure what it is: ’52 Riley RMB Saloon?

It seems that the collector car world has provided us with so many ways to participate in our hobby with all sorts of rare and unique vehicles. Rallies, tour and vintage racing plus concours events make up the majority of pastimes. You can go mainstream and find a nice Jaguar, Mercedes, Lancia or even an American collectible. Or you can search for the more obscure marque to challenge your parts sourcing acumen or wood refinishing skills. Today’s find is one of those. It is a rather elegant British saloon from the late 1940s or early 1950s. There seems to be some debate in the eBay listing comments. The seller says he has a title that states it is a ’52 Riley RMB. A handsome, traditional British saloon of the period. Some commenter however suggests it is a late ’40s RMA. The difference between an RMA and an RMB is more displacement than anything else although the RMB is said to be a little longer too. Frankly, it is hard to tell from the photos in the listing and the research we quickly performed. I guess with a chassis and engine number and the email address of the Riley owner’s club president will get to the bottom of this mystery. Regardless, if it is an RMA, RMB or a WMD, it is a neat traditional right-hand drive sedan that could be loads of challenging fun at a vintage rally or tour. It looks comfortable enough and fairly well cared for. The seller states and we might actually agree, that the car is in such good condition it would be hard to duplicate for the asking price of $12,000.
