Blank canvas: ’67 Volvo 122S Wagon
Admittedly we are station wagon aficionados. We applaud their versatility and in most cases, the long roof design. Couple that appreciation with one of our favorite utilitarian cars – the Volvo 122S – and you have a car we believe would be a welcome addition to anyone’s household. We are not at all suggesting that this particular example or any other become someone’s garage or trailer queen, but rather an adventure mobile. This is a car you make as reliable as possible using methods learned 40 years after it was originally built.By that we mean, throw in a Petronix igniter, new halogen headlights running through Daniel Stern’s excellent relays, clean all the grounds and make sure there good, change the fuses, plugs, anything that might go. Then we would tighten up the suspension and replace the shocks with Konis or Bilsteins. Finally new brakes and tires. Then take the family camping somewhere far from home. Take lots of Instagram pictures and make your friends jealous. When you get home, take it to Soccer games, Home Depot wherever. You’ll appreciate it because it is a car you can figure out without consulting a manual. Try doing that with a TR4 or MGB. This one is in the kind of condition you want. It isn’t perfect so anything is possible. It is mostly rust free however the seller states the previous owner performed some amateur rust repairs in non-structural areas. It looks like it might need a front fender or two. You can buy this one for $6,850 and that means you could have a really fun ride when you are done for not a lot of money.
