Not so mellow yellow: ’98 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
Back in 1993, Ford’s Mustang started to climb back out of the doldrums. Okay, there were some 5.0 liter cars that collectors like very much but none were really an entire package built by a special division of Ford called SVT. And boy, do they know how to specify a car! The SVT Cobra was a huge success. Development progressed through to the end of production when in 1999, the Cobra received an Independent Rear Suspension. But this one is a ’98 and represents a sweet-spot in model years for SVT Cobras. The aging 5.0 liter engine was replaced by a 4.6 liter modular engine that produced a whopping 305hp. The transmission was either a Borg Warner or a Tremec 5-speed depending on the build date. But they were essentially the same gearbox so it doesn’t matter a hoot. These SVT Cobras sprinted to 60 mph in 5 seconds. Not too shabby. This one we feature today is a perfect 21,000 mile example in a not too popular 704 Yellow. It is original and in great condition as is the interior. Everything works so this one is ready to rock. Hagerty has been following early SVT Cobras and they are moving in the right direction – straight up! So this one should command a solid #2 price and that will be determined by 2 factors: how much is a buyer willing to pay and if the seller is willing to part with it at that price. So we will watch this one and report back. Click here for the eBay listing.
