Anything goes: ’85 Mercedes Benz 240GD Wolf
The original 460-series Geländewagen went on sale for civilian buyers in 1979, after having debuted in February of that year. It was offered with two wheelbases, a short wheelbase (SWB) of 2,400 mm and a long one (LWB) of 2,850 mm. One could choose between three body styles: A two-door short wheelbase convertible, a two-door SWB wagon and a long wheelbase four-door wagon. They were built in Graz, Austria. The 460 was popular with military and off-road enthusiasts, with more than 50,000 built during the first decade. Today’s featured G-wagen is ex-military so show some respect. If you do not like Camo, stop reading. This is a former Danish military 240GD model powered by M-Bs super durable 2.4 liter diesel engine. Not a barn-burner but enough torque to crawl up the side of a rather steep mountain. They call this model the “Wolf” for obvious reasons. It sort of looks friendly but you don’t want to pet it. It is totally kitted out for Armageddon and if survival after the grid goes down is your main concern, this one is for you. It has only 111,000 miles and that is nothing to this beast.
