Flying buttress: ’69 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750
We will never know why car companies do what they do. Well, maybe we do. If it has to do with making money, they will do it. Unless of course it is an Italian car company then all bets are off. We repeatedly praise the Alfa Romeo GTV for its beautiful design penned by Bertone and Giorgetto Giugiaro. This ’69 isn’t has pure as an earlier Scalino but it is a little better than those that came after. It looks and feels tighter than the newer cars. The really unique identifier for the model year 1969 is the flying buttress seats. Or, as we like to call them, the seats with the holes in them. It is a beautiful seat again, only available in model year ’69. This is a US spec car with the SPICA system intact and in good working order. We like that too. It is a color change from Amaranth to red, but it is an Alfa so who really cares. The seller is a long time owner yet he leaves the new owner with a few details to attend to like repairing the speedometer cable and a few dings. Not bad for an old GTV. Yesterday we featured a ’74 GTV 2000 with a carb transplant. That is a really nice car. This one is a bit more vintage in feeling. The seller wants a premium for this one at $27,500.
