Sold! Longroof: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300TD
If this weren’t Halloween we would swear it was April Fools Day. You see these Turbo Diesel Mercedes Benz Station Wagens (AKA Longroof) are quite the in thing. If we had not just purchased that GTO for $52 million, we would be all over this one. These W123 Diesels are known to be virtually indestructible. You could put Irv Gordon miles on one and not break a sweat. They have become quite the “IT” car and smart people who eschew high technology are flocking to them making finding one a challenge. One with less than 200,000 or 300,000 miles on them is particularly difficult. Now the drivetrain may be bullet-proof but the other systems are not necessarily. So these still need a huge amount of maintenance to be fully functional. We were scouring Craigslist today and found one too good to be true. Here is a W123 Turbo Diesel, with around 110,000 miles in a wonderful color for what we think is half price. There is a list on Craigslist with probably close to 30 items that have been attended to in the past 3 years alone. Having just restored a W111 Mercedes, we know how long a list can get. Therefore the current owner has done the heavy lifting and for some reason doesn’t want to be compensated. We hope one of our readers recognizes the opportunity to find a bank vault that gets close to 30mpg for $7500. Click here for the listing and don’t be surprised if it leads to nowhere when this goes live in the morning. Click here for the listing.
