Official Tribute: ’72 Datsun 510 BRE Racer
Why would we feature a Datsun 510 Tribute racer on Mint? Well because the BRE team was really good at building competitive cars and Pete Brock, the founder of BRE, was one important car guy. At the age of 19, Brock was the youngest designer ever hired by GM Styling. In November of 1957, Brock drew the sketch which GM VP of Design Bill Mitchell picked off the wall to become the next Corvette, the Stingray. After he left GM, Brock approached Datsun. BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) became the west coast Datsun factory race team and competed in 1969 in the SCCA DP class with Datsun 2000 roadsters, in 1970 and 1971 in the CP class with the 240Zs (SCCA National Champions ’70-’71) and in 1971-72 the 2.5 Trans-Am races with the Datsun 510s (National Champions ’71-’72). The race team was disbanded at the end of the 1972 season when Brock moved on. Oh we forgot to mention he designed the Cobra Daytona Coupe, one of the most significant race cars of the period. This tribute to the BRE 510 is so well done. It was a complete build from the ground up and it appears to have been a no compromise effort. It is so good, Pete Brock has deemed it an official Tribute. You can race this in VSCDA or SVRA and be welcome. And for the $40,000 thy are asking, you could have boat loads of fun. The BRE livery is very disntguished and easily recognizes that you would be one to reckon with. Click here for the listing.
