Sturdy: ’60 Mercedes-Benz 190B
We love it when we find a relatively obscure Mercedes Benz 60s sedan in what appears to be decent condition. By obscure we mean no offense. The Ponton 190B sedans are just not seen very often on the open road. One might say the same thing about our Fintail. They get lots of attention because people remember them but haven’t seen one in years. The Benz is reported to be in good running condition but take that with a grain of salt. It sat for 16 years and that might be good for the body and interior but it ain’t good for anything else. Our Finnie sat and it cost a bundle to get it right. The last Ponton Benz we had looked like the car that had been prepared for the Peking-Paris Enduro Rally. This one might be a good candidate for something similar. The gaps look pretty good so given that it hails from California, it might be a solid car. It looks to be a column shifted 4-speed but the seller doesn’t tell us. The asking price is $14,000 and it has to be totally cool in every department to be worth that. It is a 190B and not a 220 after all. But it could be fun at the right price.
