Bad Boy: 94 Mercedes-Benz E500
The 500E has been surfing under the radar for years. Just recently it made a list on Yahoo Auto of cars that you need to own. The M-B 500E is a freaking German hot rod in the Pontiac GTO tradition. It looks plain on the outside but watch out. The press called it “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”. How unimaginative. It’s Walter White from Breaking Bad. It is a monster with a top speed limited at 160 mph. They made 1,596 of these bombers. More appropriately Porsche made them. Yup. In a spirit of camaraderie, Porsche assembled the 500E engines for Mercedes. This one has 164,000 miles but that shouldn’t turn you off because it has service records all the way back to 1994. It was owned by a real Mercedes-Benz enthusiast and they usually know how to care of a car properly. The seller tells us the interior is perfect with 4 bucket style seats with heaters and a newer Alpine stereo. The E500 comes with 3 sets of wheels including the authentic Brabus wheels currently shown on the car. We get that Brabus is a quality tuner but not sure about the design of these wheels. Thankfully you’ll have 2 other choices. The rather modest SCM Price Guide that seems to under value some cars like the 912 have this one at 4 stars and between $18 to $38,000! Wow, we were very surprised by that. The asking price for this one then is pretty reasonable at $18,500. Click here for the listing.
