Swedish Gold: ’71 Volvo 1800E

“P”, “E”, “ES” and “S” – These are letters attributed to Volvo’s ageless sports car. Some say the “P” is for personal car (what that is in Swedish escapes us for the moment). The “P”1800 was built by Jensen during the first 2 years of production. When Volvo moved the production to Sweden the car became an 1800S and the “P” was dropped. So many folks refer to all of these wonderful sports cars P1800S for some reason. Today’s featured car is a 1800 “E”. The “E” was added to denote fuel injection. Could that be for the German Einspritzer? We think so. Volvo was into painting cars safety colors in the ’70s. They had these great orange, yellow and bright green cars. But they also liked gold cars. We see quite a few gold 1800Es but this one, today’s featured car, looks really nice. It was recently treated to a repaint and the black interior was redone too. It looks like the correct cut & sew pattern was used. The car has 71,000 miles on it, working overdrive and a B20 engine in good order. The seller is looking for $17,500. As nice as it is, it may be a bit overly optimistic. For now that is.
