Double Fintails: ’67 Mercedes-Benz 230 & ’65 Mercedes Benz 220S
Here are 2 similar cars in somewhat similar condition. And since we can’t resist featuring Fintails, we thought we would combine them into one featured listing. The Finnie that is in better condition is the ’67 230 with a 4-speed floor shift. It is in pale green with darker green M-B Tex interior in good condition. It looks to be a great survivor that will require some work to get totally road worthy. But a decent specimen to start with. The only issue we have with this one is that it is a short nose, single headlight version of the Finnie. One might call it a stripper version. It is still a robust and capable car with exceptional build quality. And we are jealous of the floor mounted 4-speed. The asking price is $9500 and that seems reasonable for a 98,000 mile original car. Click here for the listing. Photography courtesy of Shadow Man Productions.
The second fintail, a 220S, is a little rougher than the first but it is a four headlight, long nose, luxury version of the Fintail with a 4-speed column shift. This one is definitely in need of more but maybe that makes it a better candidate for converting this into a neat and comfortable event car. The interior looks salvagable although the wiring under the dash looks a little ragged. It is already wearing a set of 14″ Bundt-style alloys so the direction for renovation is set. If it runs okay, plan on spending a bundle getting it to a dependable state. But once you get there, it will stay there for a long time. We would be happy to share our experience with the new owners of either Fintail. The auction price starting bid id $4700. Click here for the 220S listing.
