The GTV is handsome in just about any color and this navy blue example is a very handsome car indeed. The seller says it is the original color so we assume it is Blu Olandese or AR-343. That is kind of rare in these parts. The seller took some liberties with this one or perhaps it was the previous owner but the liberties are in good taste. The interior has those wonderful flying buttress seats from the one-year only ’69 GTV. It has a great set of seat belts too. The GTV is shown without bumpers and looks pretty neat this way. We often write about the demise and subsequent resurgence of the American muscle car era. We know who to blame and it wasn’t for lack of demand by power-hungry consumers. Yes, those were the days of gas prices soaring to over a dollar a gallon! So it is remarkable that anyone could afford driving a car like today’s featured Pontiac Trans-Am 455SD. The 455 engine was made available in the second generation Firebird Trans Am and was arguably the last high-performance engine of the original muscle car generation. The 455ci engine first made its appearance in 1971 as the 455-HO. In 1973-74, a special version of the 455, called the SD-455, was offered and that is what is in this car. When you have a car company in post-war Britain that has the initials SS, you sort of know instinctively, that a rebranding might be in order. The Swallow SIdecar Company became Jaguar Motor Company. The new Jaguar Motor Company brought the Mk IV to market in late 1945 therefore the Mk IVs are now recognized as the first “official” Jaguar. Like most post-war British cars, the model was essentially the same as the prewar car, with an identical body design for the two saloon and drophead coupe body styles that were offered. The tiny Lotus Elan is the essential 1960s British sports car and it remains a benchmark for nimble handling to this day. With its pop-up headlights, curved windshield, and roll-up windows, it was a symbol of swinging London. It was so hip, the cat-suited character Emma Peel in The Avengers television series, chose to drive an Elan to emphasize her vitality and independence. That could be said of anyone who wants a Lotus Elan. It will also signal that person is under 5′ 10″ tall. The Elan was built with a backbone frame and a fiberglass body, and had four-wheel independent suspension. Its Ford 1600-cc four-cylinder engine developed 105 hp and featured Lotus’s own twin-cam head. Weighing only 1,420 pounds, early cars could do 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds, with the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds at 87 mph. Read More

Yesterday we featured a ’57 Ford Thunderbird. We wouldn’t normally show another T-Bird but we were watching a video produced by iDrive about the Goodwood Revival. Goodwood is an event that rivals the historic events at Monterey in California. In the video, we noticed that a 1961 Ford Thunderbird convertible was the Official Goodwood Pace Car for the prestigious TT Class race. It is the race that features billionaires watching their multi-million dollar cars race against other billionaires’ cars. If it is good enough for Goodwood, it is good enough for Mint. So we searched and found a perfect example available in Florida. It is a 1st year, 3rd Generation T-bird we affectionately call a bullet nose. This one is nice in white with red interior and it is sporting a set of real Kelsey-Hayes wires. Read More

Ken and Mary: ’77 Nissan Skyline GT-R Tribute

These crazy cool cars were not imported to the U.S., therefore any that are on our shores have come from private import like today’s featured Skyline. This generation Skyline was commonly referred to as the “Ken & Mary” or “Kenmeri” Skyline. Some advertising genius featured a young couple relaxing in the countryside with their Skyline so fans affectionately named them Ken and Mary. Nissan built the GT-Rs so they could race but they pulled out of racing and stopped producing the GT-R edition.  Only 197 Ken and Mary GT-Rs were built and prices are now well beyond the $150,000 range.  Read More

Before 1968, these wonderful British Saloons were referred to Mark 2s. After that, they became the 240 and 340 Saloons. Jaguar was under some serious competition back then from the Rover TC so they took some content out of the 240/340 cars. That means no leather, less expensive carpets and no standard fog lights. They still looked smart though. The 240, like today’s featured car, got a liitle bit of a performance boost so it could top 100MPH. This car is a bit remarkable because it features original paint. In our humble opinion, the ’57 T-birds are the best of the 2-seaters. The extended rear decklid helped to eliminate the trunk space issues that necessitated the need for the nifty Continental Kit in previous models. We know the Continental kits were very popular back then but they added nothing to the cars balance and handling. So the spare in this one is in the trunk where it belongs. Today’s featured T’bird comes from the dry Arizona desert. It is finished in Coral with black and white interior. The paint is original and therfore doesn’t hide anything. Read More

Bill Devin was born in Rocky, Oklahoma in 1915. One of the great automotive journalists, Henry Manney describes Devin in the July, 1961 Car and Driver as “The Enzo Ferrari of Okie Flats.” Devin was a kit-car manufacturer. But unlike many others that attempted to create a car that would make a mark in history, Devin actually did. Indeed Devin progressed a long way from the sands of Oklahoma to a prominent place in the sports car movement and the automotive industry of the Fifties and Sixties. Today’s featured Devin racer has a split personality – a cross between a sprinter and marathon runner. Since Devins were basically sophisticated kit cars, you could build them the way you wanted. Very Special: ’55 Jaguar XK140 DHC

Early Jaguar XKs have many letters assigned to describing how these beautiful cars are specified. The DHC in this case means Drop Head Coupe or a convertible with a nice folding roof and roll-up windows. It is fitted with extra wood in the interior too. Another few letters tell us this has the modified competition head or MC. In the UK they are known as an SE. We must confess to saying that this is the first Pastel Green Jaguar we have ever seen. They matched the color from original paint remnants on the bulkhead. Everything that could be saved in the restoration was making this pretty exciting and elegant car. Read More

We are in the tank for all early 911 Coupes but when we see one in an unusual color, we like it even more. Pastel Blue might not be so unusual if it were on a Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible but it is on a 911. Now this one has had a lot of work done to get it looking this good and we don’t mean a nice paint job. It has new floors, inner and outer rockers and fender mounts. All of that needs to be checked to make sure it was done properly but since we found this one on Rennslist – a place for Porschephiles – we will trust but verify. Read More

Here are 2 similar cars in somewhat similar condition. And since we can’t resist featuring Fintails, we thought we would combine them into one featured listing. The Finnie that is in better condition is the ’67 230 with a 4-speed floor shift. It is in pale green with darker green M-B Tex interior in good condition. It looks to be a great survivor that will require some work to get totally road worthy. But a decent specimen to start with. The only issue we have with this one is that it is a short nose, single headlight version of the Finnie. Read More

These pre-rubber bumper Alfas are a bargain. We call them Kamn-tails because they have a “bobbed” rear deck and not the “disco” tapered tail of the Duettos and early Spiders. But they are an attractive car with lots of bling fore and aft. The power comes from a 2 liter, double overhead cam 4 breathing through twin Webers (in this case). The 5-speed transmission is a delight to use if the 2nd gear synchro hasn’t blown up as many do. This one is fine and we suggest you keep it that way by double clutching most of the time particularly when it is cold. Read More
