Rising sun: ’89 Toyota Supra Turbo
The Toyota Supra Turbos have a unique following. They are the favorite of the tuner generation and we can understand why. The Supra, like today’s featured ’89 Turbo, is a good car waiting to be great. Back in ’89 Car & Driver wrote nice things about the package and the value it represents compared to the Porsche 944 Turbo. The Porsche being two times the price but according to C&D, the Porsche is more refined. The Supra was fast, turning in a respectable 144mph (153 claimed) but the engine lost its composure at the upper rpm range. They complained about the shifter too. But C&D complains about lots of things. Overall, it is an astounding package and finding an unmolested one like this low mileage car is remarkable. It is striking in bright white with navy leather interior. And being Japanese, we are confident everything works, as it should. The removable roof adds a nice dimension and the period late 80s styling looks kind of cool today. We like it and if one of those tuner fans buys it, we’re sure they will cure some of the issues C&D wrote about. Click here for the listing.
