Gee Wiz: ’87 Mercedes-Benz G240D
We’ve always liked the early G-wagens. You know, before they became the darling of the Hollywood/Marthas Vinyard set. They’ve gotten ridiculously expensive and overly complicated in our opinion. They were originally designed as a multi-purpose military vehicle so when we found this one, we thought it represented the original spirit of the G-class. It looks tough as nails and probably is. The tires are serious off-road capable but must be a pain on the street. we will keep them for those times when we know we are going in the boonies. Secure a set of steelies and get something less aggressive. It is outfitted with just 2 seats and not sure if any other seats can be added easily. Our guess is yes. We love the fact that it is a 240D with only 76,000 miles. That means it has another 500,000 miles of life left in it. The seller tells us that the brakes and suspension are new and there is no sign of rust or repair. The interior is new too. The asking price is $21,900 and that certainly reflects all of the money sunk into making this one cool vehicle. These are hard to find in this condition. So why not pay more and get one already done. Click here for the listing.
