Details: ’66 Triumph TRA IRS Surrey Top
Frankly, we never really understood how cool the Surrey Top Triumphs are, probably because we never saw a really nice one. We did a few months ago as did our friend, Michael M.. He is hot to trot to find a nice one so you better beat him to the phone for this one. He likes original cars too, bumps and all. And this one has its share of cosmetic issues but it is all there and very original. The listing says it is an original owner car with 64,700 miles. It is a garage find so it will need a thorough going over mechanically to be made road worthy. But the really cool thing about this car besides the Surrey Top is the optional overdrive transmission and the Independent Rear Suspension or IRS. According to SCM Price Guide, you should add almost $2000 to the price of any TR4 if it is so equipped. It has painted wires in sinister black but you want to redo those anyway for safety. Our British car expert, Michael M., suggests the listing isn’t totally truthful because of the flat floor and “home-made looking” rockers both said to be original and rust free. We think this represents a great opportunity for someone who wants a straight forward project. Given the suspect repairs, a marque specialist should have a look before the price is agreed upon. You’ll wind up with a popular sports car with all of the interesting bits from the factory. The SCM Guide has a range of $8000 to $32,000. This one will probably sell (or should) on the low side.
