Bandit: ’79 Pontiac Trans-Am Hardtop
We’ll be honest by telling you our preference for the second generation Trans-Am is the shovel-nose front end. But this one is really rare and very Mintworthy. Can you spot the rarity? Probably not, so here goes. Most Y84s (Smokey and the Bandit) are T-tops. This one is a hardtop. The seller says there are probably only 10, Y84s like it anywhere. The seller knows Trans-Ams and rightfully states the T-top cars are a bit wobbly and not as stiff as a hardtop car. In addition to the roof, this one has the biggest motor available in ’79: the 403ci sourced from Oldsmobile. Now according to our sources, you can easily extract more power out of these by stripping out the emissions system and the Cats. You probably can’t do that in California and of course, we aren’t condoning that kind of behaviour but it can be done. This one has only 55,000 miles and it is an automatic with A/C. Everything works on this Bandit. The asking price is $18,900 and that doesn’t sound like highway robbery. Click here for the listing.
