Possibilities: ’67 Porsche 912 Coupe
When we first spotted this 912 we got excited. It happens to be in a great color – Aga Blue with a cream-colored interior. It also has a pair of factory head restraints. It looked pretty good. And the price is reasonable in today’s market at $22,000. But alas, we read the listing and almost decided to pass on it. But the color is so nice, and it has a rare sunroof, so here it is. Mechanically it is described as being fairly road worthy. The engine was redone but they do not tell us it is original to the Porsche. Let’s say it is for now. The suspension sounds like it was done too with Konis at all 4 corners. Now here comes the bad. It needs lots of bodywork. The floors look solid although there is a patch under the driver’s feet and we need to see how well it was done. The rockers are a mess and the paint– the lovely Aga Blue – will need a redo. The interior isn’t awful but I am sure it will need something. But you might be able to get this for less, ideally under $20 grand and you could drive it as is for a few years. Then when you are sure valuations rise and hold, then maybe you could spend the $20,000 it will need to get right. Click here for the listing.
The rust in the rockers is down played but experience dictates that there will be much more since visible rust is usually and literally like the “tip of an iceberg”. A worthy project though for a do-it-yourselfer with welding skills who does not “count his or her labor hours”….
