Bad Ass: ’76 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40
If you ever watch a Mecum or Barrett-Jackson auction on TV you will have undoubtably seen a restored FJ40 cross the block at almost 6 figures. Insane as it is, FJ40s have become the daring of the restored 4X4 crowd. Maybe that isn’t so insane since Icon4X4 has made a living selling recreations of FJ40s at over $135,000. What is the allure? We can’t really say for sure. The FJ40 is basically a slightly better Jeep than a Jeep. After all, they were virtual copies of the Jeeps left behind during the war. For whatever reason, if you want to collect FJ40s, you’d better get on it. Prices have crept up over the past decade or so, so people are asking close to $25,000 decent, numbers matching trucks. If you’re looking at one of the rare pickup or station wagon versions, expect to pay even more than that. But you can still find deals here and there if you look around. Today’s find is in better than average condition. It hasn’t been attacked by the tin-worm nor has a Chevy V8 been installed. It is just a complete, natty, stock FJ that has good bones. It even has a winch already. Buy it and take it as far as you want and it will take you wherever you want to go. This is a nice color you don’t see every day too. The bidding needs to start at almost $10 grand. It is worth it. Click here for the listing.
