Valiant Effort: ’67 Plymouth Barracuda
Another first for Mint – a Plymouth Barracuda 383. You had to feel for Chrysler back in the day. Ford and Chevy had an easier time getting people to buy the Mustang and Camaro. Plymouth had a bit a slower start with the Valiant-based Barracudas. The second generation cars were a little more distinctive in design and featured a nicer looking Fastback in addition to a Convertible and Notchback. Today’s find is a really nicely kept 383cid Fastback. That’s the biggest engine you could get in between the front wheels of these bodies and they performed pretty well. Ford did out gun them with the 390cid Mustang option however. This one we have on Mint today is presented as a totally stock, unmodified example in white with 2-tone interior and automatic transmission. It is equipped with manual disc brakes, manual steering and that does not make for a leisurely in-town cruiser. The condition of the body is good with nice shut lines all around. The floors may actually have the factory undercoating still visible. The sellers have this one priced at condition #1 according to Hagerty. That is pretty strong for anything other than a trailer queen. But these are rare in this condition so perhaps there is a Chrysler collector that might see the value. Click here for the auction.
