Why?: ’69 Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB
There are few big sedans that are on our short list for cars we want to own. In fact, we can’t think of any other than a Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB (Short Wheelbase). Perhaps it is the mystique about who the owners of these magnificent cars were back in the day. The Pullman version (Long wheelbase) was originally conceived for royalty and heads of state. The Pullmans wound up in any number of coachbuilt versions including 6-doors and Landaulets that allowed the passengers in the back to be adored by the huddled masses. The Short Wheel base versions had some custom touches too. You could order one with a divider between driver and passenger or you could have it like today’s featured car: a big luxurious sedan for the whole family. They are enormously complex cars powered by a huge M100 engine that eventually powered the notorious 6.3 Sedan (come to think of it that is the other car we covet). You do not want to buy a 600 with needs. You want to pony up big money for one done or constantly well cared for with no differed maintenance. Like today’s featured car. We actually really like these in rich Havanna Brown with saddle leather throughout. This one has been in the care of a marque specialist and comes with one of our favorite options – fitted luggage. We don’t know if anyone agrees with us when we say nice examples will appreciate and now is the time to find a good candidate. Click here for the listing.
