Scooped: ’70 Iso Grifo 7 litre
According to online resources, of the 90, 7-litre Series II Grifos, only 28 were built with the ZF 5-speed. We happen to know of one here in Connecticut and it is a spectacular Italian/American Hybrid. The styling is beautiful and the work of Giorgetto Giugiaro with mechanicals by Bizzarrini. Bizzarrini and Renzo Rivolta parted ways and the Grifo soldiered into production first with a small block Chevy engine producing close to 400hp. In 1968 the Grifo 7-litre was introduced with a Chevrolet L71 big-block engine. This seven-liter power plant required changes to the car to fit, and a hood scoop, or penthouse as it is known, was needed because of the engine’s height. It produced 435 hp at 5800 rpm and the factory claimed it could reach a top speed of 186 mph. Today’s featured car is in Germany where it was sold originally. This German car retains the original engine and transmission. It is finished in Dark Green/Gray exterior with Creme Leather interior. These don’t come to market often but when they do the numbers are pretty rich. Back in ’99, you could have bought a 327 driver with needs for $30 grand. Those days are gone. The asking price for this one is $439,000. Since there were so few made, a trip to Germany to snag this one might be worth it. Click here for the listing.
