Honest: ’63 Austin-Healey MK II
There is no shortage of Big Healeys for sale at any given time. And since we know Healeys one might ask how do we arrive at selecting just one. It isn’t easy and since we can’t personally inspect every car, something has to stand out. The MK II we selected for today, is somewhat rare not by number built (they built 5,450) but by the number of carburetors. The MK I and MK III had dual SUs and the MK II had triples. Healey people today don’t necessarily love the triple set up. Donald decided to use 3-carbs to help support his racing team. The sanctioning body allowed increased carb size but not an increase in the number of carbs. Today’s car is black and that is one of the most difficult Healey colors to get right. Ours was black too so we know the challenge. This one looks pretty nice. The interior is original with wonderfully preserved seats and newer carpets that can use a quality improvement. The MK II was the first Healey to have roll-up windows, curved windscreen and a folding top. The top and tonneau on this car are also original. Wow. The seller has chrome wires on it but the painted wires it was born with come with it. Same goes for the radio upgrade. They are asking $49,500 and that seems reasonable to us if it checks out mechanically. Click here for the listing.
