Algar history: ’79 Ferrari 308 GT/4
Algar Enterprises is an authorized Ferrari dealership on Philadelphia’s Main Line. It is a dealer that we know well and at one time was recognized as a Ferrari Importer in the same category as Chinetti Motors. It’s been years since we’ve pressed our nose against the showroom window so we could see a new Ferrari or Lamborghini. Algar is short for Al Garthwaite and this 308GT4 belonged to his daughter, Wendy. The Ferrari has traveled 58,000 miles to date and has led a charmed life. It has been off the road since 2008 and the last major service in 2006. It is resprayed in the original Rosso Corsa and is currently fitted with 16″ wheels. That is improves handling and expands tire choice but not original. Thankfully the factory 14″ wheels come with the car. It is equipped with a Tubi exhaust and that too can be returned to stock if that is what the next owner desires. The 308 GT4 is a rare sunroof car and that has both advantages and disadvantages. The downside is reduced headroom. We really like these and nice ones without deferred maintenance are rare. Yes, this one will require a major service to be safely considered road-worthy but if the rest of the car is in order, this is one to consider. It is slightly over $34,000 as of this writing.
